Course overview

This course is delivered one day a week for 3 consecutive weeks and focusses on the physical health assessment and care of service users within mental health care.


Three key areas are covered:

  • Physical health assessment
  • Assessment and management of common physical disorders seen in mental health care
  • Health promotion.


The unit will be delivered through a combination of classroom seminars and practical sessions in the simulation suite.


Successful completion of this unit will provide you with the skills and knowledge necessary to address the physical health needs of service users in mental health settings.


100% attendance is mandatory. All the teaching is delivered face to face (10am-4pm).


Although there is no assessment, students are required to complete additional work outside these seminars.

Prerequisites

This course is recommended for practitioners who are keen to develop their knowledge in physical health conditions commonly experienced by adults with mental illness. There are no restrictions. Applicants need to be working with people with mental health problems but can be from any professional group, including healthcare assistants
