Overview of the Session

This programme for registered nurses aims to increase confidence and skills needed for nursing patients with palliative and end-of-life care needs in general settings. It is designed to build knowledge, confidence, and compassion in generalist nursing practice.


Content:

· Reflective introduction to the day

· Principles of palliative and end of life care

· Orientation to tools and documents commonly encountered

· Communication skills and difficult conversations

· Holistic assessment and care

· Recognising dying

· Principles of symptom management

· Non-pharmacological and pharmacological approaches

· Use of Syringe drivers

· Self-care and debriefing


Learning aims:

To increase the depth of understanding about palliative and end of life care. To improve clinical knowledge and skills in communication, difficult conversations, documentation, holistic care, symptom management, pharmacological principles and self-care.

This course is for Nurses and Allied Health Professionals

Bournemouth Gateway Building is the home of the Faculty of Health and Social Sciences.
