Course overview

This unit is built on the fundamental knowledge you have gained from either the Self-leadership or Improving Personal and Organisational Performance (IPOP) units. Please see the prerequisite section below for further information.


The unit aims to explore leadership in the context of integrated care and service provision. It will focus on developing and sustaining new approaches to collaborative working; developing new roles and seamless person-centred provision through effective whole system leadership. There is an exploration of integrated care and leadership theory supporting the student to reflect upon their own capability and develop a plan for leading integrated service provision.


Key areas covered:

  • Models and theories of leadership
  • The evidence for “effective” leadership in the context of integrated service provision
  • The context of integrated care and collaborative working
  • Creating a shared vision - visioning within integrated service provision
  • Managing conflict in integrated provision
  • Benefits, enablers and barriers to integrated provision
  • Involving stakeholders in co-production, including patients, service users and carers
  • Effective whole  system leadership
  • Developing resilience in the context of integrated service provision
  • The importance of measuring impact and outcomes


This unit can be undertaken as part of the MA Leading and Developing Services programme.

Prerequisites

Applicants need to have undertaken at least one CPD Leadership unit at level 7, prior to undertaking this course e.g. Self-leadership or Improving Personal and Organisational Performance (IPOP) or equivalent*


*Equivalent could include:

  • A level 7 leadership unit from another University (you will need to upload evidence of this to your application form)
  • Evidence of previous CPD level 7 study in a related professional practice subject study (for example Supporting Practice Learning in Social Work or Deteriorating Adult Patient Recognition and Management) with a letter of support from your employer that confirms the following: That you have a clear understanding of leadership theories and approaches and have the ability to work at Masters level
  • We will consider applicants with a relevant undergraduate degree (level 6) provided they can evidence significant leadership experience and provide a letter of support from their employer that confirms the following: The applicant has a clear understanding of leadership theories and approaches and has the ability to work at Masters level
