Course overview
You will explore the evolution and current contextual issues surrounding advanced professional practice, in relation to development of your own advanced practice role and discuss, analyse and debate developments and explore the evidence-base of advanced practice, within a multi-professional setting.
Learning outcomes
Having completed this unit, the student is expected to:
1. Critically review and evaluate the historical, political and economic influences upon the development of advanced nurse practitioner roles in healthcare;
2. Demonstrate critical awareness of the issues relating to advanced nursing practice;
3. Critically analyse how law, ethics and professional accountability relate to advanced nursing practice and their advancing role;
4. Critically appraise relevant research and evaluate their developing advanced nurse practitioner role in relation to their patients, demonstrating the impact of advanced nursing practice;
5. Disseminate the vision for their advanced nurse practitioner role in an inter-professional healthcare setting.
Assessment
Submission of a written assignment with a focus on advanced nursing practice (3,000 words)
